Overview
What makes this journey special
The only park in East Africa where the bush meets the Indian Ocean – game drives, a Wami River boat safari and empty beaches, a short drive from Dar es Salaam.
Saadani National Park stretches along the coast between Dar es Salaam and Tanga. Elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions and many antelope live in its coastal grassland and woodland, while the beach in front of the camps is a nesting site for green turtles.
The Wami River forms the southern boundary of the park. A boat safari through its mangroves brings you close to hippos, crocodiles and fish eagles, with colobus monkeys in the riverside trees.
Four days gives time for game drives, the river trip, a walking safari with an armed ranger and long afternoons on the beach – a gentle mix for families and for travellers combining bush and coast.
