Most climbers summit at night and descend before dawn. This elite eight-day Machame itinerary inverts that: after the full scenic ascent, you camp inside Kilimanjaro's crater at approximately 5,700 m – adjacent to the Furtwängler Glacier – before a short sunrise walk to Uhuru Peak.
A night at Crater Camp is demanding, cold and unforgettable. For experienced high-altitude trekkers who have previously hiked above 4,500 m. Specialist equipment, crater permits and an extended guide team included.
Rainforest, Shira, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall and Karanga progression.
Daylight climb to crater rim. Establish camp inside the caldera.
Short pre-dawn push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Long descent to Mweka Camp.
