Overview
What makes this journey special
Escape to Mbudya, a quiet island north of Dar es Salaam with white sand, clear lagoons and a shaded beach for a long, lazy lunch.
Mbudya Island is part of the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserves, a short boat ride from Kunduchi beach north of the city. It is larger and quieter than Bongoyo, with a long white beach, coral outcrops and coastal forest inland.
The day is about doing very little – swimming in the lagoon, snorkelling over the rocks, walking the shoreline and eating freshly grilled fish under thatched shelters.
Mbudya combines well with a Bagamoyo day trip or a city tour for travellers spending a few days in Dar es Salaam.
