Overview
What makes this journey special
A short but complete taste of Nyerere – a game drive among elephants and wild dogs and a boat safari on the Rufiji River.
Nyerere National Park, formerly the northern part of the Selous Game Reserve, is Tanzania’s largest national park at more than 30,000 km². The Rufiji River and its lakes make it one of the few parks where you explore by boat as well as by vehicle.
The park is known for large elephant and buffalo herds, lions, leopards and one of Africa’s strongest populations of African wild dogs, with hippos and crocodiles in every channel.
With an early start from Dar es Salaam, two days is enough for an afternoon drive, a morning boat safari and a second drive on the way out. A fly-in option shortens the transfer.
